ACTIVITIES FOR ALL SEASONS

The best aspect of Thredbo Farm is that you don’t just have to enjoy the ski season. We are much more than your typical ski lodge: we are a mountain retreat for all reasons and all seasons. No matter what time of year you visit this superb alpine accommodation, you’ll always be spoilt for choice.

While many Australian ski resorts are ghost towns for 8 months of the year, at Thredbo Farm there’s an abundance of things to see, do and enjoy all year round. Explore pristine alpine forests, river flats and lookouts on our own walking trails or the many nearby nearby attractions:

  • Kosciusko National Park is right on our doorstep with a range of walks and natural sights.

  • Lake Crackenback Resort has a café, restaurant, 9-hole golf course, heated pool, canoeing, fitness track, pump track and skills track for mountain bikes, a network of walking/cycling trails throughout the property and more.

  • Thredbo Village, in addition to the winter ski sports, has a range of restaurants and bars, a golf course, walks and an aquatic centre. It’s also the jumping-off point for the Kosciuszko Summit Walk and the Thredbo Valley Track.

  • For the fishers in the family, great fishing can be had in the Thredbo River and Lake Jindabyne. Eucumbene Trout Farm and Gaden Trout Hatchery may also be of interest.

  • Thredbo Valley Horse-riding offers alpine horse treks

  • Wild Brumby is famous for its schnapps, sculpture and delicious fare

  • There are also many opportunities for spectacular Snowy Mountain drives, both on and off-road.

WINTER WONDERLAND

Thredbo to your left, Perisher to your right… two of the two best Australian ski resorts right on your doorstep. Decisions, decisions! Luckily you can decide over breakfast as you leisurely read the early morning ski reports or simply gaze out at the mountains to check the weather for yourself.

And when we say right on your doorstep, we mean it. Being right on the National Park boundary, Thredbo Farm Ski Lodge is as close as you can stay to Thredbo without being in the Village. Straight along the Alpine Way and you’re there in under 15 minutes on a clear day.

Perisher is accessed by the Ski Tube, a few minutes drive from the Lodge. One ticket entitles you to ski Perisher, Smiggins, Blue Cow and Guthega, while over-snow transport can take you on to Charlotte Pass.

You can wax and maintain your skis in our own ski workshop or visit Harro’s Snowsports across the road at Lake Crackenback resort. And when the weather’s less than perfect on the mountain, our protected valley location means that winter bushwalking and mountain-biking are always options.

ON THREDBO & PERISHER’S DOORSTEP

Thredbo is an alpine village at the foot of Australia’s mighty Mt Kosciuszko. It boasts almost 500 hectares of snow fields for people of all skill levels, from sliding gracefully down Friday Flat to launching yourself with a hoot and a holler off The Bluff. There’s even twilight riding – a truly amazing experience.

Thredbo has the longest runs in Australia as well as the most vertical descent. Thredbo’s snow-making facilities are second to none, so more often than not there’s more than enough quality snow to keep the fun and games going.

Perisher is a winter icon in Australia and famous for fun. Its 47 lifts can accommodate over 50,000 skiers an hour, but if you’re worried about the crowds, relax. With a skiable area of 1,245 hectares, there’s a stack of room for everyone regardless of experience. The longest run is around 3kms, while there are over 100 km of marked cross country trails.

SPRING & AUTUMN

In the quieter months of Spring and Autumn, you’ll find peace at the lodge. Imagine lazing back on a sun-lounge on the timber deck, breathing clean fresh mountain air, taking in that invigorating view of the Ramshead Range Peaks. The fishing season opens with the October Long Weekend Fishing Competition. While some of the best trout streams in Australia are just a short drive away, our own Little Thredbo River also produces plenty of fish.

Late Spring is the perfect time for wild flowers at Thredbo Farm and also on those infectious high country walks. For the adventurous and keen, ski touring is possible on the main range well into October while white-water rafting tours blend exhilaration with splendid scenery.

Autumn is a wonderful time to visit the Snowy Mountains: Beautiful days, falling leaves and a chill in the evenings. Autumn also brings crisp, clear sunny days with golden tussocks set against a cobalt sky and colourful leaves. Don’t forget your camera or your sketchbook and paints. Hike spectacular trails or go fishing, horse riding, mountain bike riding, abseiling, golfing or swim and exercise at Thredbo Leisure Centre, the nation’s premier altitude training centre.

These are great times of year to hold a wedding or larger family reunion when whole-of-lodge bookings are readily available.

SUMMER SENSATION

Summertime and the living is easy in the mountains. There’s plenty to do for the whole family, so take your time. Play tennis, basketball, football, cricket, baseball, soccer, shuttlecock, volleyball or basketball. You can even play golf at Australia’s highest course in Thredbo or across the road in Lake Crackenback. Explore spectacular hiking trails, go fishing, horse riding, or abseiling.

Go for a swim in our pool or in the deep waterholes in the Little Thredbo River. Laze back in a sun lounge on the deck or a hammock under the trees. Enjoy a barbecue, picnic, bush walk, run, or mountain bike ride along the Thredbo Valley Track. Go fishing or gold prospecting. Enjoy the tranquility of the lodge and soak up some sun and mountain air. Take your camera to the lookouts, or get some amazing shots of wildflowers, native birds and animals.
