Spring 2022 Newsletter
We’ve had a huge Winter at the lodge with close to capacity bookings throughout July and August. Thanks to everyone for your patience and flexibility as we’ve juggled bookings to accommodate as many requests as possible. A huge thank you as always to our volunteer booking manager, Karen, and the assistance Therese Buckley has provided to stay on top of the booking requests through such a busy season.
Things have generally worked well with so many concurrent guests, and we’ve summarised a checklist of common issues that you can share with your friends before they visit the lodge so everyone understands the standard policies that keep things running smoothly.
The snow has been exceptional since early June despite a lot of windy days through the season, so the higher slopes should stay in good condition until the October long weekend. We have plenty of room available for Spring skiers throughout September, so please submit any booking requests via the website or Members’ online booking form.
Summer bookings are also filling up quickly if you’re planning to spend Christmas and New Year at the lodge.
Spring Work Party
We’ll be holding our annual Spring Work Party for Members on the weekend of November 5 & 6. These weekends are always a great way to meet new Members and play a role in keeping the lodge in top condition. Please just book your complimentary accommodation for Friday and Saturday night via the website, noting that you’ll be attending the work party. Attendees will also receive accommodation credits to use at a future time.
Annual General Meeting 2023
We’ll be back in Canberra for next year’s AGM on Saturday February 11 2023 at the RUC for our 40th anniversary! We’ll be running the meeting at midday (12pm) followed by lunch at 1:30pm with tickets available closer to the date. Attending the AGM is an important way for members to understand the inner workings of the lodge and have a say in its future. The TFSL Board always needs new members to inject fresh ideas and bring specialist expertise, so please consider putting your name forward when we release nomination forms.
Manager’s Residence
Excellent progress has been made with the approval of the Development Application for the new manager’s residence. If you’ve been at the lodge recently, the plans have been on display in the hallway. Construction should commence later in September with a target February completion date. In parallel with this, we will be installing two 110,000 litre rain water tanks, meaning all taps in the lodge will have drinkable water.
WiFi Upgrade
After years of dealing with substandard options for internet access at the lodge, we’ve just completed an upgrade of all WiFi access points connected to the Starlink satellite service, so we probably have better download speeds than you do at home. This means we’ve removed any restrictions, but will be keeping tabs on usage in coming months to see how it performs under load. A big thanks to Kim Pepper and Eddie Grueninger for advising and installing the new system.
Welcome New Members
We had a flurry of share sales through July and August using our new online auction process that saw share prices align with the recent property price rises in the region.
We’d like to warmly welcome the following new members and their families:
Sam from Manly Vale
Nigel from Gundagai
John from Canberrra
Paul from Elanora Heights
If you have family or friends who’d like to apply to take part in future share auctions, they can do so by completing this form. If you’re considering selling your own share, please get in touch.
If you ever have any questions or feedback for the Board, please reach out via the website contact form.
